What are some good electric cars?

I've always wanted to buy a hybrid car. But now I want to compare let's say the Toyota Prius to a full electric car. If I can find a good full electric car that's at a good price, I'd get it. Does anyone know any cars or good websites that have sedan plug-in electric cars that cost pretty close to a gasoline car. I know that there is the Tesla Roadster and Chevy Volt, which are pretty cool. They're pretty expensive though. Thanks.

Oil is headed to 0 a barrel and gas will be a gallon and diesel will be a gallon, The electric cars are coming and it will cost the equivalent of 6 cents a gallon to charge them up, Nissan, Chevy, Toyota and many more car builders have plans to start selling them in 2010, thats a year and a half from now. Subaru has developed a car that charges in a few hours and will go 150 miles per charge. Why buy a gas burner?

I just read of how a man in Los Angelese has converted an old Porsche 914 to an electric car with a 60 mile range for ,000 (24 lead acid batteries). ( http://www.latimes.com/classified/automotive/highway1/la-hy-wheels2-2008jul02,0,3144785.story )
I thought to myself that's a good idea. Probably better to buy an electric scooter though, if you don't need to take the freeway often as is the case in L.A.

I'm now doing some investigation into that idea and I hope to begin building my own electic car also. Does anyone else have similar plans?

I have heard about how its actually better to convet old small pickup trucks (Ford/Toyota/GM) to electric pickups because the box can hold more batteries and the springs are easily upgraded to hold the extra tonnage. Lead acid batts are heavy but they're cheap, so that's why Lithium Ions are shunned for now.

My thoughts are to buy an older car, as small and light as possible, and then convet it with as few batteries as possible.

Electric-in,electric storage and electric use means an all electric car. I see this word-’hybrid’ applied wrongly, in to many ways, among the media. I see how hybrid might describe an all electric if a solar panel, mounted on the car, contributes to it’s effectiveness. What I don’t see is how a wind/solar fed power grid gives an all-electric plug-in car hybrid status. Seams to me that toyota and honda really want to confuse us on the matter to limit thier losses in an all-electric conversion. To think that these two powerhouses have little influence, in this reguard, is a serious mistake .
I understand the current gasoline/electric japanese offerings; do you understand a pure electric offering such as made by Tesla motors? You really need to understand what hybrid infers.
