Who Killed The Electric Car part 1 of 10

Chevy Volt A Big Hit at Alt Car Expo 2008

Never (hardly ever) buy gas again. The strong and silent electric motor has begun its assimilation of our transportation systems, and GM will be joining the party with VOLT (grandchild of the ill-fated EV1), a stylish plug-in sedan that turned heads at this years Alt Car Expo. GM Group Manager Dave Barthmuss told us all about the plans and hopes for the Volt.

Folding Electric (3 wheeled) Car from 1920s

This is a film clip of two females assembling, unfolding a three (3) wheel electric car. The car can be fashioned as either a convertible with side doors or as a front entrance car with full cover for the passenger compartment. The car can be folded up for storage. Presumable it is an all electric drive vehicle for ease of maintenance and to eliminate the the issue of cranking the start motor of the combustion engine of the day. Anyone know more about this vehicle, please send me a message …

I just read of how a man in Los Angelese has converted an old Porsche 914 to an electric car with a 60 mile range for ,000 (24 lead acid batteries). ( http://www.latimes.com/classified/automotive/highway1/la-hy-wheels2-2008jul02,0,3144785.story )
I thought to myself that's a good idea. Probably better to buy an electric scooter though, if you don't need to take the freeway often as is the case in L.A.

I'm now doing some investigation into that idea and I hope to begin building my own electic car also. Does anyone else have similar plans?

I have heard about how its actually better to convet old small pickup trucks (Ford/Toyota/GM) to electric pickups because the box can hold more batteries and the springs are easily upgraded to hold the extra tonnage. Lead acid batts are heavy but they're cheap, so that's why Lithium Ions are shunned for now.

My thoughts are to buy an older car, as small and light as possible, and then convet it with as few batteries as possible.

It was all the way back in 1997 that GM introduced the EV1 that could do 50 mph and carry a charge for 100 miles.

If you look at how fast technology advanced for phones, computers, and other things, it’s really stupid to say that we “can’t do it”

as for the market support. there is a bigger potential market for EV’s than Hummers (I say potential cause there are none. but most people want one) yet they keep pumping the hummers out!

groups of 10 high school students are making these clean cars with spare parts. you’re saying these multi billion dollar industries can’t do it with thousands of senior engineers?

Electric cars did exist over 10 years ago, but GM decided to scrap all of the cars, even though they worked perfectly. It's all in a documentary called "Who killed the electric car?". GM sold the battery technology to an oil company and the electric car was no more. If they would have worked on the battery technology, think of how far we would have gotten into electric cars.

This is one of the 40 surviving EV1 electric cars built by General Motors, that had been completely disabled and then donated to various universities and museums. It was transported to EV Bones in Dec 2007, and powered up for the first time following three days of hardware and software work by university faculty, students, and EV Bones. Enjoy the short video.

www.v8tvshow.com – [13-Aug-2008] General Motors today released photos of the production version of its electric car, the Chevrolet Volt. The vehicle was first introduced at the North American International Auto Show in 2007 and is an important element of General Motors’ plan to develop a full-range of gas-friendly to gas-free vehicles. Available video includes product shots and running footage of Chevrolet Volt and available stills include production shots.

Instead of just teasing us or slowly releasing the vehicles or initially offering them at prices over ,000, I think GM should go for it and start full production selling the cars at no more than ,000. Would you be more likely to buy one if it was priced at ,000 and then you get ,500 government rebate, bringing the effective price to ,500? I think they would be flying off the lots faster than they could make them. What do you think?

New factories are popping up in many countries, (Norway, Italy and Germany) and no economical electric cars are planned here – just the GM 0,000 electric batmobile. You gotta know it can be explained by the action/inaction of congress and the lobbyists. Those elected officials are purely evil.
HotLulu: You are a bit rough and on the rude side. Let me warn you that this is not a site designed for in-depth scholary essay with footnotes, glossary and an appendix. I choose to eschew rude sarcasim and make general references easy to find in a simple search of the web. My references can easily be checked. The new Norway company was announced yesterday in the news. Easy to check. Take it or leave it. Thank you for dropping in.
