I would like to take a small car like the Geo Metro and convert it to a electric car? Or a small pickup like a Chevy S-10 and convert it..any ideas on how to do this? Where could I get parts to do this at and plans?

Hybrid car – powertrain?

Can I buy the powertrain for a hybrid or electric car?

Are there kit cars to make a Ferrari or Cobra style car?

Can a hybrid have two engines, one front, one rear, to make a HOT ROD?
Two answers were very informative.
I liked the Ford/Siemens engine on eBay and the Ferrari replica.

Peugeot coupe? Is that what Columbo drives?

The goal is not fuel efficiency or even practical daily usage. It's too launch a new sport, like supercharged family sedans launched Nascar.

Thanks to all.

I’m finishing up an electric car conversion. I have plans drawn up to make a trailer/gas generator for long drives but would hate to defeat all my hard work making it a gas hybrid. Does anyone know of a way to make a portable generator operate off of hydrogen? Or if you can think of an entirely different solution then that would be great too.

I know it's all about oil and money, but I just want to hear your take on this and inform some poeple on what's really going on. (Warning, this may reeeaally piss you off).

What's really crazy is that the electric car was killed and very soon after was replaced witht the useless gas hog wannabe humvee H2. Yeah things would get bad if the oil industry was killed off, but gradually it would work and create more jobs, it's not something that would work out great at first, but it's something that has to be done, and fast. Alaska is having trouble providing oil to a hungrier oil counsimer market, and there are already plans to drill for oil all through national parks and forrests, so I guess you can say byebye animal habitat.

Is a Hydrogen/Electric Car REALLY green?

Hydrogen cars for the most part use a Fuel Cell to "burn" hydrogen producing Energy. This requires hydrogen to be separated from water, and requires the same amount of energy as you would get from the fuel cell. if the fuel cell & Electrolosys were 100% efficient. Neither are, and some estimates are as high as 75% energy loss due to inefficiencies.
The Byproduct of the fuel cell is water vapour which wikipedia states accounts for 36-70% of the greenhouse effect. I also can't help thinking about the environmental impacts if all the millions of cars on the roads today produced water vapour and the amount of rain this would produce, Mudslides and floods etc.
Electrolosys is the process that splits water into Hydrogen and Oxygen, however as the name suggests, this requires Electricity to work. "The Grid" or electrical supply for this electrolosys or my electric car is largely powered by fossil fuels. Just cause i cant see the pollution from an electrical outlet doesnt make it green

Electric car Georgia?

Can anybody tell me where there are some electric car dealers in georgia.

If not than can you give me links to Kits to do it myself and tell me what i will need to do it.

Oh and also how much it will appx cost.

What are some percentages based on electric cars?

Well, I'm doing a project.. and Google isn't being my reliable source. Pretty much, all I need is some percentages or.. numbers based on anything GOOD about electric cars. I'd also like some links to websites with electric car information. Thanks!

I am interested in converting my 1993 Honda Accord into an electric car. I've been searching online for a kit and don't know which one is best. I want it to use ultra-capacitor/battery technology. I am seriously wanting to end our countries dependence of oil.

Why do I keep running into brick walls each time I try and give my idea of a self powered electric car to government sites, car companies and so on. It never needs to be plugged in and charges its own batteries while you drive it, what could be better?
It seems to me that everyone would want to jump at a chance to develop a car that never needs recharged and can run across the entire length of the united states without one drop of gas, water, corn, or anything else that is being used today.
As it stands with my limited knowledge of electric cars, I could still convert an existing model into a self powered vehicle with very few changes.
America needs someone to step up and look beyond the games of politics and special interests groups.
Is there anyone willing to take this idea and run with it? I would if I had the money.
All you need is one modern electric car and the parts needed to convert it into self powered.
