Should the Polar Bears be really concerned when we all start plugging in electric cars rather than our IPODs?

Do you think there will be major Polar Bear protests springing up…..uh….well…..all over the parts of the Arctic that still has ice?
And……will the enviros be concerned that their own ideas are destroying the Polar Bears? Oh…..the irony.

polar bears are a wasted resource. they do nothing all day but lay around sunbathing, skinny dipping & snaking on helpless baby seals.
I believe they should be FORCED to do their part in the fight against global warming just like the rest of us unwilling dupes.
polar bear body temperature is 98.6F & the average temperature of the arctic is 17 degrees f.
this 81 degree difference should be enough to run thermal plate generators & charge I pod batteries if they were plugged into the bears correctly.
this would also create many(very temporary) green jobs for polar bear pluggers & help alleviate our 9% unemployment rate.
there would obviously be no need to pay health or retirement benefits on the pluggers so it would also help alleviate our medicare & social security funding problems.
there are simple solutions to most problems if you're willing to think WAY outside the box.
The problem with your question is that even if the power is coming from a coal fired power station if you using an electric car instead of a fuel powered car your are releasing only about 40% of the Co2 emissions.
With a modest investment in a bank of solar cells, I could drive to work every day for no cost in fuel. What a tragedy for the oil companies !
Screw the polar bears, let's make fun of little birdies now !

yes that and its still going to take some kind of coal powered plant to build them, we will still need tires and oh yeah its like trading one garbage for another.
Yes, perhaps so.
Not to mention the Hazardous Material used to create the batteries for these electric cars, and the disposal of said batteries when they are no longer serviceable.

Ho hum, another day, another not-so-well thought out reason not to act by the righties. We are building wind and solar farms all over the place, along with geothermal and a dozen other sources, people will be able to use clean energy for their power. I live in NM and my state already has a renewable energy % law. Most people could afford an electric car and use it 98% of the time.
One sentence from the article says it all: "Most of the increase in consumer electronics will be in developing countries, where economic growth is fastest and ownership rates of gadgets is the lowest,"
It's not going to be in America, which has been plugging in consumer electronics for generations. In fact, each new generation of consumer electronics generally uses /less/ power. The reason your cellphone battery last longer today than it did 20 years ago, is that it uses less juice (mainly because the cell towers are closer together). Modern computers use less power than those of the 80s, too. Flat screens use less juice than CRTs. The only reason there would be an increase in the US, at all, is because of rising population due to massive immigration.
No, the growth if from developing nations who didn't have much along the lines of radios and TVs in the old days. If you want to save the environment, you must halt that development. Keep the chinese in ther rice paddies and the africans in thier mud huts. That's what environmentalism is all about – stopping civilization.
