I built my own electric car. I converted a Geo Tracker to electric. I chose this particular vehicle because of its light weight. You don’t get blueprints, pe se, but wiring diagrams. EVParts.com supplies the motors and controllers, and they also have complete kits, but their kits are kind of pricey. Basically, you have to make an adapter plate to connect the electric motor to the transmission, and a second adapter to bolt the flywheel to the motor shaft. You can have these made by a local machine shop for $200 or so. There are many options and trade-offs to consider, from the selection of motors and controller to the batteries.
Here is a video I made when I was first testing it, using plug power – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NbVooQfbp8. It now has batteries and is running great. Also see my Web site at http://www.electronautomotive.com.
Write if I can help.

Yes. Conversion kits are available.. Some are actual kits and some are just directions. You might also be interested in converting your car to run on water and gas giving you a water/gas hybrid. You do either however you need to have a certain degree of mechanical knowledge to execute these conversions properly or know someone who does that can assist you. Go to my conversions blog below. Hopefully it be of some further benefit for you.. Its always nice to see the end of oil revolution in action.. Good Luck to you. Let me know how it goes.
